JOHN & ALTA HOXTER

As far as I know our greatgrandfather was an Indian. He is listed in some censuses as Mulatto and others as colored. My mother told me two things that we should know about our grandfather was the indian thing and that all of us Hoxter's were related in some way. A lot of people do not wish to acknowledge this but, the "colored" family members that we have met in recent years was also told the same thing. In the 1880 Census my greatgrandfather was living in Mispillon, Delaware. His spouse is listed as Alfu (probably the way it was transcribed). They had about ten children living with them at that time. My grandfather "Roy" was just a baby. He was born August 3, 1879. At that time they had my ggrandmother's age listed as 46. She was not listed in any other census after that time. However, there was at least one other brother born shortly after my grandfather. His name was Charles. He was born in October, 1881. My grandfather left Delaware in his teens and moved to the Eastern Shore's of Maryland. Most of his sister's also married and moved to the area.

ROY & HANNAH ROSS HOXTER
Hannah Corina Ross and Roy Hoxter married and lived in Goldsboro, Maryland. Hannah lived in either Chester, or Kent Island, Maryland. Some of her brother's names were: Houston, Rembert, Joseph, John, and Carvel. Her sister's name was Lola. Charles, Elijah, Roy, and Hannah bought the Family land that they raised their children on in a little section called "Union". Their children's names were: John C., Zorabel I., Watson P (Parker) as he was known to everyone, Emma F., Alvin & Alta, William Melvin & Mildred B., Elmira, Anna Ardese, and Joseph. Hannah and her family members being devout Methodists built their little church "Union United Methodist Church and Cemetery" on some land out on the road in 1904. Behind their church is also the cemetery. This little church is about to celebrate its 100th Anniversary in October, 2004.

THE CHILDREN OF ROY & HANNAH HOXTER
John married Viola Wilkerson. They lived in Goldsboro, Maryland and attended Union United Methodist Church, both are buried there. Their children's names are: Orvel C., Betty, Alussia, Alta V., Anna L, Marian, Jedina, and Doris. ORVEL married Joyce Boardley, no children from this union. BETTY married Charles Murry, they live in Maryland. She has three children, Sharon, Wayne, and Donald. ALUSSIA married Reginald Johnson. She had three children, Richard, Lamont, and Regina. ALTA V. married Thomas Wilkerson. They had six children. Maria, Kendall, Kimball, LaNiece, Donte', Toni ANNA L. married Irvin Ashley. They had two children. Keith and Karen. MARIAN married Alan Ming. She has one child, Bonnie. JEDINA married, Ronald Hutchins. They have three sons. DORIS married Willie Norwood. They have three children. Dorissa, Jamie, and Steven. ZORABEL married Raymond (Ray) Evans. They lived in Wilmington, Delaware until their deaths. WATSON PARKER married (E)liza Skinner and they had one daughter, Geraldine. He remarried Helen Grenich of Denton, Maryland. They lived in Philadelphia, PA until their deaths.
EMMA did not marry but lived most of her life in Chester, Pennsylvania.
ALVIN died in the early 1940's in Wilmington, Delaware.
ALTA married Kenneth Emory. She lived most of her life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
WILLIAM MELVIN married Mozella Faulk. They lived in Wilmington, Delaware. Their childrens names are: WILLIAM MELVIN, JR., LOUIS, JOAN, LAWRENCE, DEBORAH, and TIMOTHY.
MILDRED B married Marshall Henry. They had six children: EARL, NORMAN, CARVEL, MAURICE, QUINTELLA, AND CARROLL.
ELMIRA married Frank L Jones. They lived in Philadelphia, PA. They had six children: FRANCES, JOYCE, JOSEPH, HUBERT, YVETTE, and CARLITA.
ANNA A married Paul Brown. Anna's partner was Walter Greene. They had one son. Walter, Jr. They lived in Wilmington, Delaware.
JOSEPH married Callie Mae Williams. They lived the majority of their lives in New York City. They had two children: JOANNE, and CURTIS. Joseph also had one daughter, Charlotte Henry, before he married.

Samuel married Gladys Battle of New Jersey they lived in Goldsboro, Maryland. Their children were: John, Ivory, (Sis), and Harold May.
Roy married Hannah Corina Ross, of Chester, Maryland and they moved to Goldsboro also. There they raised a large family.
Their children's names were: Zorabel Indiana, John Cornelius, Watson Parker, Emma Frances, Alvin and Alta (twins), William & Mildred (twins), Elmira, Anna, and Joseph Hayward.
